Montrose Residential Aged Care Facility – Montrose, Victoria
Mercy Health is a service provider for hospital care, aged care, mental health programs, and residences for the elderly across Australia. The Montrose Residential Aged Care Facility is a new purpose-built building located in the lush eastern suburb of Montrose, Victoria. The three-story building is equipped with a grocery store, café, library, and chapel. The layout of the residential care centre promotes engagement, collaboration of social activities, and interaction between residents and carers.
Versalux, Thomson Adsett and Semas Consulting worked in close collaboration on the project, briefed by Mercy Health to create an innovative look and feel as a multi-level healthcare organisation. The lighting design was formed by Versalux to stay in line with the architect’s creative vision, the motives behind the lighting design and architecture of the facility was to ensure that the elderly residents’ medical treatment, their physical needs, physiological moods, and general well-being were the priority through the use of natural and artificial light.
In the social meeting rooms, TORINO corner-profile LED strip luminaires create a wonderful lighting effect via their homogenous lighting distribution that allows patients to feel relaxed and rejuvenated. Each patient can interact, socialise, and transit through ideal lighting conditions with glare-free characteristics.
The MIDNA is a modern styled wall luminaire with robust, bold design, its rectangular aspect complimenting the lineal TORINO runs. The fixture delivers smooth bursts of illumination, projecting light well into its surrounding environment, creating a feeling of ease for the residents and staff navigating through the space. The wide beam spreads highlight the contemporary design of the space, adding a nice touch of class to the environment.
In the facility’s integrated grocery store, the VARESE was selected as a classically styled and discreet spotlight for simple yet effective illumination of the products. The luminaires were integrated into the space via VERSATRAC track lighting systems set into the contemporary retail supermarket’s ceilings. The wide arcs of adjustment provided by the VARESE allows for excellent future variability of the layout according to the needs of the store. The chosen 3000K warm white colour temperature creates a pleasant ambience for patients to enjoy their shopping experience. The effective, multi-faceted reflector delivers high vertical illumination on the products, and the choice of CRI97 LEDs ensures a high degree of colour accuracy attracting customers and allowing them to focus their attention on the products.
The PAD series is utilised throughout the corridors of Montrose Residential Care Facility; this powerful LED downlight is compact in design and recessed with a minimal flat trim. The PAD is a high-performance luminaire with a wide beam multi-faceted reflector, it obtains elevated levels of illumination for better visibility translating into greater movement and freedom for patients and allows staff to continue working, as the PAD acts as night-light illumination in a comfortable atmosphere.
In the chapel room, the ALBA PENDANT were suspended from the exposed panelled ceilings. The black finish of the ALBA PENDANT creates a subtle contrast to the décor of the space, and their efficient, low-glare optics render the luminaires both attractive and versatile – the perfect combination as a lighting system to illuminate the inviting openness of the place of worship in a peaceful atmosphere.
The MELRIE are surface-mounted wall luminaires made from a robust aluminium casting, and protected against water, dust, and insects with their IP65 construction. The MELRIE luminaires act as pathway illumination for residents, visitors, and staff, highlighting walkway access points and delivering low-glare illumination to create a highly attractive, yet safe and secure space, linking multiple residential quarters of the facility together.
