TAFE NSW, Young Campus - Young, New South Wales
The TAFE NSW Young campus has undergone a multi-million dollar upgrade, transforming the facility through a refurbishment that pays homage to its rich cultural heritage and natural environment.
The Young campus is part of TAFE NSW’s Riverina network of facilities, and offers a variety of courses from Advanced Diploma to Short Courses for students with valuable experience in training environments for real workplaces. Since 1941, the Young campus has been educating students from the local community and its surroundings, and the upgrades that are breathing new life into the facilities have allowed it to cater for the rapid growth of students in recent years and generate a new architectural identity for the school.
For Versalux as a key lighting supplier, the redevelopment of the Young campus presented the task of developing a tailored lighting design in close cooperation with Building Services Engineers, Zauner Constructions and Watters Electrical to make the entire learning landscape and outdoor facility buildings internally and externally brighter, more accessible and modern. The aim was to ensure optimum illumination was achieved through the breakout, classroom, library, and exterior areas of the campus. The innovative approach could only be brought to life by best utilising an array of our Versalux flagship luminaire product families.
The COMO BLACK blends seamlessly as part of the minimalistic décor of the interior design. High quality craftsmanship and a sophisticated engineered design ensure the illumination from COMO BLACK luminaires is smooth and unobtrusive, cultivating an optimal working atmosphere with high visual comfort above the desks. The large floor to ceiling windows around the library allows natural light to flood into the building. The COMO BLACK have been used to minimise glare, reduce eyestrain, and allow students to learn in a pleasant ambient light for reading, learning, and task completion activities.
The breakout area is both a functional and flexible element that promotes collaborative learning as a connective zone between classrooms and libraries. The primary objective of the COMO BLACK was to ensure optimum visual comfort for the multi-functional region, whether it is for individuals revising or by having open discussions together. The COMO BLACK illuminates the space efficiently and unobtrusively, offering a pleasant distribution of illumination that act as a social anchor point, helping to elevate the social space beyond a transitional corridor and a pedestrian-friendly space for students and the greater TAFE community.
The classrooms are fitted with high performance recessed VENICE DOWNLIGHT luminaires, embracing an indoor interior lighting solution for an effective modern looking environment. The VENICE DOWNLIGHT creates a lively atmosphere and uses its multi-faceted reflector ensuring a high level of light distribution and high degree of visual comfort which works in tandem with the grey carpet combined with the white walls and ceilings décor. The VENICE DOWNLIGHT LED optics produce a uniform beam spread that illuminates the faces of students and teachers in a pleasant way, enabling them to concentrate, remain alert, and work in an optimal way. The space can be considered as a multi-purpose area to cater for lessons, workshops, and seminars.
The Young campus required a superior design and quality choice to effectively illuminate the exterior educational environment. The TALIA bollard fixtures were selected based on their optics, reliability, and corrosion resistant construction to achieve a superior result for the exterior’s landscape. The stylish TALIA bollards with its double uniform distribution have a great architectural impact on the urban landscape as a feature. The TALIA luminaires are set out in a strategic arrangement for directing traffic, which offers a sense of protection and security for the TAFE’s community using the open space.
